Crowley Hilltop Preserve

Eastern Sierra Land Trust

Crowley Hilltop Preserve protects winter range and migration corridor for the Round Valley mule deer herd.  The parcel contains a meadow with a year round creek and a knobby hill visible from Crowley Lake and Scenic Highway 395. The preserve is bordered by public lands and ensure that vital wildlife habitat and scenic views are conserved.

Crowley Hilltop Preserve is an important portion of the Round Valley Mule Deer migration corridor. This corridor is increasingly being squeezed between Highway 395, new development, and the steep escarpment of the Sierra Nevada. Ensuring that lands such as the Crowley Hilltop Preserve will remain contiguous habitat to protect the future of this herd and other wildlife dependent on the habitat.

Working with the California Wildlife Conservation Board, ESLT purchased the 33 acre parcel near Crowley Lake that was slated for development. The preserve is characterized by scattered Jeffrey pine and Mountain Mahogany thickets, a grassy meadow, and a small year-round creek. The preserve is bordered by public lands and its purpose is to ensure that vital wildlife habitat and scenic views are conserved.
